3 Legal Ways of Importing Japanese Cars in the United States

The automobile manufacturing industry of the US also belongs to the top tier. But this country’s love towards the vehicle is so deep that they are open towards the cars of some other manufacturers too. In this regard, the Japanese cars are the second most favorite in the US.

Unfortunately, there are no proper arrangements regarding the sales and purchase of the Japanese cars in this part of the world. Unlike the other countries, you will hardly find any Japanese used car dealers in the US which just make the purchase of this brand’s car in the states.

The only option that left after that is importing the cars directly from Japan. However, importing something in the states have never been easy. That is why I am writing this article and going to guide you about those three legal ways through which you can import a Japanese car in the United States of America.

1.    Compliance:

Bringing a car into compliance is the most common and obvious way of importing car in the US. You cannot choose a more legal way of importing car in the US. This is the most used method of importing cars in the US but unfortunately, it is not simple enough for the laymen to exercise. But in reality, it is the most expensive method.

In a nutshell, the car that you wish to import from US should meet the US roads regulations. At first, the car needs to go through the crash testing. This makes the point of being expensive quite obvious. To clear such test, you have to import several units from Japan and each unit will be tested separately. So if you want to import cars into compliance, then you have to make sure that each of your units stands by with the crash test and meet the US safety standards.

2.    Show and Display:

If you are an automobile lover or have any interest in the politics, you would know about the show and display rule. This was the same law through which the Bill Gates was able to drive a Porsche 959 in America. It was the law that brought Bill Gates under the screw during his presidential tenure but in reality, this wasn’t his wish. There were many big businessmen behind this who wanted to see non-American cars on the streets of Washington New York and Queens.

Thanks to this law, numerous non-American automobile brands got an exemption from the application of compliance law including the Japanese companies like Nissan and Subaru. So if you have your heart on the cars from these brands, then you can avail the perks of show and display law. Through this law, you get an exemption from all the US road safety protocols. With this law, you can even import a car without marker lights, headlight swaps, seat belts and airbags. The only protocol you have to follow is EPA’s set rules and regulations.

3.    US Respects Veterans:

No, I am not trying to be politicized here but this is true. If you want any old (veteran) car in the US, then you have a free hand here. But, the veteran should be 25 years old. No 24 years 11 months old and even 24 years 11 months and 30 days old. It has to be over 25 years. If you are importing a 25-year-old car then none of the above and any other law applicable to you. This is the shocking thing about the US laws over imports and exports and this is the one which you can also exploit. Just build some interest in the vintage Japanese cars and you can get it in your garage in much shorter and simpler way.
