The Step-by-step Guide to Connect Projector to PC or Laptop

Connecting a projector to a pc or laptop could be challenging for those who are doing it for the first time or are not too familiar with technology. In any of the scenarios, it is always better to take help from a step-by-step guide or turn to a projector and screen installation expert. If you have decided to go with the first option, here the guide to help you get started.

For Windows

Step 1

There are different types of video cables with the common ones being HDMI, DVI, and VGA. While most projectors support all popular cables, you must check if yours has got specific preference.

Step 2

Once you know the type of the cable, identify the connection port it will connect to on display or the projector. Most of the connection ports are present on the back side. Though some projectors or best projection screens might have labelled video ports, there’s a probability that the one you are set up doesn’t have one. In that case, plug into a port that has the shape of the head similar to the end of your cable.

Step 3

Turn on the computer or laptop. While some computers or projectors connect instantly, other need you to send a video to the display screen as a testing step.

Step 4

If you have a Windows 10, press Window+P to see the projection options in the sidebar. You will see options like a duplicate, PC screen only, the second screen only, and extend on the screen.

Step 5

Select the video source, which is the connection port that laptop or computer will use to connect it with the projector. There’s a source button on the remote, and the sources are named after the type of connection.

For Mac

Step 1

Similar to what’s already discussed above, you need to identify the video cable type and connect it to the connector port. The connector ports are mostly present at the back of the projector or screen. Though the port is labeled, in case it’s not, you need to match it with the shape of the head on the cable.

Step 2

Press the power button, which is either on the buttons panel or the remote for the projector.

Step 3

There’s an Apple menu that appears once you click the Apple icon present in the upper-left corner of the display showed in the menu bar.

Step 4

Choose system preferences that appear in the Apple menu.

Step 5

You will see a Displays icon that looks like a computer monitor in the system preferences window of the Mac. It will open the ‘Displays’ window.

Step 6

Check the box that appears next to mirror screen to enable the computer to display.

Step 7

Click ‘Detect Displays,’ an icon that appears on the lower-right corner to enable Mac to detect the display.
