Review
The legendary Ratnam-Haasan team had high expectations for “Thug Life”. The film’s narrative is rife with cliches, such as gang rivalries and betrayals. It also fails to provide a new perspective. In the first half, there is some intrigue with characters such as Indrani and Ali Fazal. However, these subplots are not fully developed. The second half is a series of implausible situations, where Sakthivel survives multiple near-death encounters, reducing the credibility of the story. Even A.R. Rahman’s background music, which is usually his highlight, lacks emotional resonance and feels disjointed.
